We’re hiring a flexible, caring, and collaborative Assistant Educator to join our team at Hundred Acre Wood Forest School in Heathcote, ON! This is a unique opportunity to support both our Kindergarten and Senior Preschool programs, with a special focus on providing one-on-one support for children who may need extra attention or guidance.
Our team is passionate about child-led, nature-based learning and we’re excited to welcome someone who shares our values and wants to be part of something meaningful.
About the Role:
You’ll be assisting in our licensed Kindergarten program for the months of May and June, then supporting our Senior Preschoolers in July and August as they prepare for Kindergarten for September. This role is focused on being a calm, consistent presence in the classroom, offering one-on-one support where needed, and working collaboratively with lead educators to help guide the rhythm of each day.
You’ll be part of a team that spends almost all of their time outdoors, fosters a deep connection to nature, and creates an environment where children feel supported, safe, and inspired.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist lead educators with daily routines, transitions, and activities
• Provide one-on-one or small group support to children who may benefit from extra guidance
• Help set up and maintain engaging learning environments indoors and outdoors
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, and staff
• Pitch in with general tasks such as cleaning, organizing, and light food prep when needed
• Toileting & Diapering
• Be ready to shift gears or change pace as the needs of the day evolve
What We’re Looking For:
• Experience working with young children in an educational or care setting
• A genuine interest in nature-based learning and outdoor play
• Strong communication skills and a warm, grounded presence
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to a dynamic environment
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)
• Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic cook to join our team temporarily from mid August to mid October. This role offers a flexible schedule with hours varying from 25-30 hours per week.
Opportunities for Growth : While this position is temporary, there is the potential for continued employment within our organization at either our Kimbercote or Feversham location.
We are a licensed non-profit childcare centre and forest school in Heathcote ON. We are situated on 100 acres of meadow and forested land, with an indoor facility that reflects our outdoor learning philosophy. Our outdoor spaces include fire pits, trails, hills to climb, climbing trees, bike tracks, natural playgrounds, and more.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children.
- Plan menus that accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Collaborate with staff to create a positive and supportive dining experience.
- The ability to create a menu according to Canada’s Food Guide and centre policies and procedures.
- Ability to multi-task in the kitchen and to find work efficiencies
Qualifications :
- Previous experience in cooking or food preparation, preferably in a similar setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs for children.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certification in Food Safety and Handling.
- Flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to adapt to changing needs.
- Current First Aid Certification is an asset.
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Screening / Criminal Record Check
- Must have a working knowledge of centre policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times
